Induction Sealing Onto Glass: A Breakthrough in Induction Technology

Induction Sealing Onto Glass

Induction sealing onto glass jars was previously an impossible task. In the past, achieving tamper evidence for glassware was accomplished through the use of Heat Shrink Tamper Bands which proved disadvantageous. They were difficult to apply in production; they were difficult to remove for the end user. They were often dust traps and even appeared to attract dust to the product.

Now, however, with induction sealing, we no longer need to worry about such dilemmas. Sealing onto glass is executed through a Foil-Under-Cap Approach where the cap is loaded with an induction foil when it is placed onto the container. This allows for tamper evidence and a secure seal for the product.

What are the advantages of Capless Sealing?

  • It enables induction sealing of containers with metal caps without the risk of them heating too much and becoming volatile and unsafe for product contact. This is achieved because the capless sealing process takes place prior to the metal cap being placed onto the container.
  • It allows for much higher contact pressure of the sealing foil during the induction process, making sure that the foil remains bonded with time.

Capless Induction Technology: Improve Exponentially

Capless Induction Technology

Capless Induction Technology

With Capless Induction, sealing any product is now a breeze, and with our newly tested materials, product packaging has been improved exponentially, not just from a production standpoint, but more importantly, from a consumer standpoint.

Packs assembled through capless induction and the introduction of a press-on plastic overcap gives the consumer an easier way to open the product without risk of leakage or tampering. And after opening, the consumer needs not worry about unsightly torn label flaps; who doesn’t want a neat packaging solution?

What’s more is this technology allows for both an economical opportunity for the consumer and and environment-friendly solution to “one-use” packaging. Using capless induction along with the reusable cap allows for easy cleaning of the container for reuse, giving the consumer more bang for their buck and breathing new life to your merchandise.

The SealerOn™ Mini: Small but Powerful

The SealerOn Mini

The SealerOn™ Mini is a small powerhouse and workhorse for induction sealing. The next step up from a Semi-Automated Bench-top Induction Machine, this incredible device has its own conveyor, streamlining your production processes.

How does The SealerOn™ Mini work?

The SealerOn™ Mini is designed to run inline with the LabelOn™ Mini label applicator, allowing you to have your own mini production line while maintaining an impressive daily production capacity. The machine is also compatible with Epson Colorworks Label Printers, allowing you to print your own labels while the machine does the sealing for you—all on a single table!

Furthermore, the SealerOn™ Mini was devised with the consumer in mind. The machine prevents the sealing head from starting when the conveyor is off, ensuring no issues arise during production. An optional back-up sensor is also available to prevent the piling up of products when there is no available path for them to exit the sealing head area. If this sensor is activated continuously for too long, the sealing head will automatically turn off.

Capless Induction Sealing Glass Bottles with Metal Lids

Capless Induction Sealing with Metal Lids

This is SealerOn’s 5-head capless induction sealing machine. With this, dry products packed into glass can be induction sealed—even if the package has a metal lid. The machine fills the glass jars, adds a desiccant and then the Capless Induction Sealing Process takes place. Finally, an attractive metal cap is placed over the sealed top of the glass jar.

Products are finished in a high-end glass package with tamper evidence and a moisture and oxygen barrier with close to zero transmission rates.

How does our 5-Head Capless Induction Sealing Machine do it?

Rolled induction sealing material is cut and applied to the top sealing surface of the vial. Our unit has 5 filling sealing heads allowing for higher processing speeds. The sealing cycle then lasts 0.2 to 0.4 seconds introducing only minimal heat energy to produce the seal.

Key Benefits to Capless Induction Sealing

  • 100% visual inspection of the seal is possible.
  • More pressure can be applied at the time of sealing resulting in a better and more even contact during the induction sealing cycle.
  • For single-use containers, the process can eliminate the need for multi-layer cap lining or even eliminate the need for a cap altogether.
  • For containers with metal/metalized plastic caps, tamper evidence is still achievable along with a moisture and oxygen barrier with close to zero transmission rates.

SealerOn’s Single Rotary Head, Capless Induction Sealing Machine

Single Rotary Head, Capless Induction Sealing Machine

This is SealerOn’s Single Rotary Head, Capless Induction Sealing Machine. With this machine, jars are first filled and then the capless induction sealing process takes place. Finally, a metal/metalized cap can be applied to the product. A high end glass package is achievable with tamper evidence and a moisture and oxygen barrier with close to zero transmission rates.

How does the Single Rotary Head Capless Induction Sealing Machine work?

Rolled induction sealing material is cut and applied to the top sealing surface of the vial. An induction sealing cycle as short as 0.2 to 0.4 seconds can seal the top of the film using minimal heat energy.

Key Benefits to Capless Induction Sealing

  • 100% visual inspection of the seal is possible.
  • More pressure can be applied at the time of sealing resulting in better and more even contact during the induction sealing cycle.
  • For single-use containers, our process can eliminate the need for multi-layer cap lining or even eliminate the need for a cap.
  • For containers with metal or metalized plastic caps, tamper evidence and moisture and oxygen barriers are still achievable, allowing close to zero transmission rates.
  • Promotional material may be added onto the foil prior to placing the cap on the jar so that consumers can participate when the product is opened.

Making Re-Purposed Glass Packaging Possible with Induction Sealing and SealerOn™

Induction Sealing Glass

The appeal to pack into glass is well documented.

Those seeking products in glass are looking for product that is not tainted by plastic contact.  They are looking for purity in the product and most likely align themselves with the goals of environmental awareness and sustainability.

If packaging can be recycled, that is a big plus to these consumers. If packaging can be re-purposed or go on serve a purpose well beyond a single use, that is ideal.

Almost all Glass Packaging has a Neck with a thread to allow for the placement of a cap.

More often than not, the caps are Metal Caps and this tends to eliminate the prospect for sealing using induction sealing as the induction sealing process usually works with a cap holding the induction sealing liner and passing under a high frequency oscillating magnetic field; the metal caps do not allow this field to reach the induction material.

Food and Cosmetics packed into Glass need

a) A Good Barrier on their Opening.

b) A form of Tamper Evidence.

c) A seal that will not allow for leaking.

To achieve a) b) and c) traditional Secondary measures include:

i) Heat Shrink Bands (Some refer to these light weight transparent thin pieces of throw away plastic as potential “turtle chokers”)

The application of these Heat Shrink Bands is onerous in production

The removal of the Heat Shrink Bands is onerous on the end user

They are a great source of dust collection

They rely on other properties of the Cap and Capping Equipment to  prevent leaking

ii) Tamper evident Labels applied to the lid with one or more fingers that fold down the sides of the container.

There is clever machinery out there to achieve this see: http://view.label-on.com/jarste

This method also relies on other properties of the Cap and Capping Equipment to prevent leaking.

With new “Break Though Glass Induction Sealing Material” and with a range of standard and Capless Induction Sealing machinery; Adeneli and Benefel can present new and innovative solutions to pack in glass.

To date Glass induction sealing material had been limited, in the main, to dry products such as instant coffee or Gel Capsules and other powders.

Repurposed Thumb

We now have a “Break Though Glass Induction Sealing Material” that works with many liquids including Vegetable based Oils.
